Travels and tantrums

So here we are again and about 5 months have passed since I last updated this, but never fear, I’m going to do a mega one today so you’re all caught up with my life.

Well, the first thing that happened after I last updated was that I went on a trip with the other students from the language school to the Salar de Uyuni – the world’s largest salt flat covering 4,085 square miles. It’s pretty big. We spent about 4 days there and it was amazing. When standing in the middle of the flats, it is all you can see in every direction, there is nothing else. Whilst there, we visited volcanoes, geysers, swam in natural hot springs and stayed one night in a hotel completely made of salt. Beds, chairs, tables, you name it, it was made of salt. It was such a good trip, we really bonded as a group through many games of ‘would you rather…’ and the best card game EVER telefunken. It even has the best name. It was so much fun to be away and see more of this beautiful country. We also got to experience bolivian weather reading, as before we went everyone told us, ‘it’s SO COLD there. We might die.’ However, when the day temperature was about 20 degrees, we had a hard time believing them.

It was such a good time of getting to know people better and experiencing more of God’s glorious creation.

Since then I have been working away in the boys’ home and it is great. I can’t get enough of those crazy kids, even if they are a bit of a handful sometimes – e.g. recently the youngest boy, Rubén, punched one of the older kids in the face so hard that the other boy’s nose bled. But don’t worry, last week one of the other boys punched Rubén so that his nose bled, so we’re all even.

Rubén and I. He is excited for a fight.

It can be pretty tough sometimes, the boys never want to do things like go to school etc, and recently one of the boys who was supposed to be in school for extra classes (reinforcement classes during the summer holidays) decided he didn’t want to go in so he stayed off. I however didn’t realise this and proceeded to take him out for a walk, and we bought secret ice cream. Doing well there Matthew, ‘hey kids, let’s all skip school and I’ll take you out for ice creams!’ I am a huge div. But I love it and wouldn’t change the kids for the world; they make me laugh every day and God has just been blessing me with such love for them.

So that is all my news for now, keep your eyes here because I am going to try the unthinkable and update again this week or next. I know you’re all thinking woah calm down, you’re crazy, but I suppose I just am. Hasta pronto!
